Congressus App - Linking and unlinking feeds

Here we explain how certain modules are linked, how you can refresh the data, and how you can make changes to the links.

Updated over a week ago

Linked modules

A number of modules in Socie management are automatically linked to Congressus:

  • Members

  • Groups

  • News and blogs

  • Agenda

  • Photo albums

Refreshing linked data

The data from a linked module in Socie is automatically refreshed, but you can also perform a manual synchronization. You can read how to do this below.

How often is the linked data updated?

Changes in Congressus, such as new news articles, events, or photos, are automatically updated periodically in Socie. When this happens depends on the module:

  • News, blogs, and photo albums are retrieved every hour;

  • For events (calendar), this is every 2 hours;

  • Members and groups are synchronized every night;

  • Changes to a member's profile, in the app (and in Congressus), are processed almost immediately in Congressus (and in the app).

Manually refreshing linked data

If you want to refresh the data of a module faster than Socie does, you can perform a manual synchronization:

  1. Go to the relevant module in the left menu and click on the button of the feed you want to refresh. Do you only see the “Add feed” button? Then you must first add a feed. You can read how to do this below.

2. In the pop-up, click on “Update now” to manually refresh the data in this module:

Add new feed

If you want to recreate a link to a module or restore a deleted feed, you will need the API key from the Congressus Manager.

Retrieve API key from Congressus Manager

To find it, go to Settings in Congressus Manager, then Apps, and click on the app that was automatically created when you created the mobile app. The name of the app indicates which mobile app it belongs to.

On the app page, scroll down to the API key. Copy the bold line with characters here:

Add new feed in Socie management

Now that you have copied the API key into Congressus Manager, you can add the feed in Socie management. To do this, go to the relevant module in the left-hand menu and click on the button to add a feed.

Often, the button to add a new feed is simply called “Add feed,” but for photo albums, this button is called “Congressus albums.”

In the pop-up that appears, you can give the link a name and you paste the API key you copied in the previous step into “accessToken”:

Once the feed has been added, the data will be automatically retrieved from Congressus.

Example: linking the news and blogs module

Go to News & blogs via the left-hand menu. On this page, click on the Add feed button. In the pop-up that appears, enter the following information:

  • External source: select API feed and Congressus (3.0)

  • Name: enter a suitable name for your feed, such as “News” or “Congressus”;

  • accessToken: paste the API key from the Congressus Manager here;

  • Choose whether you want to link to News or Blogs from Congressus;

  • Click Add to add the feed.
