Step 1 - Create a Congressus App

In three steps, we explain how to create the app, how to customize it to your liking, and how to invite your members.

Updated over a week ago

This article is part of the step-by-step plan for creating a new Congressus App. You must complete three steps before you can use the app:

  1. Create a Congressus App in the Congressus Manager

  2. Set up and test the app in Socie management

  3. Invite members

This article covers the first step: creating the Congressus App in the Congressus Manager.

It all starts in the Congressus Manager

Creating the Congressus App in the Congressus Manager is the first step you need to take before you can invite your members.

To get started, go to Settings in the Congressus Manager, scroll down to Integrations, click on Mobile Apps, and select Create new app.

On this page, you will see a form that will help you create the app in six steps. Below is more information about what needs to be filled in.

Step 1: Fill in basic information

Name

This is usually just the name of your organization or association. If you want to create multiple apps, such as one for your active members and one for alumni, it is a good idea to make this clear in the name. This allows you and your members to distinguish between the different apps.

Theme

The theme helps you with the basic settings of the app. This mainly relates to the menu layout of your app.

For example, if you choose “Student app,” different modules will be pre-installed in the main menu than if you choose “Professional app.” Don't worry, you can customize everything afterwards.

Step 2: Select members

Here you can determine which member statuses will have access to the app. You cannot select individual members, but you can select all members with a certain member status.

This makes it possible to create multiple apps: one that only members with an “active” member status can access and one for alumni.

⚠️ We do not send automatic invitation emails to the members of your app. You can do this yourself at the end, when you are ready.

You can always synchronize more or fewer member statuses with your app afterwards.

Step 3: Select groups (optional)

As an administrator, would you like to start with the app itself first? Feel free to skip Groups for now and get started with groups later.

Groups within your app can help with interaction and communication. For example, as a student association, you can put all first-year members in a group and communicate with that group.

In this step, you can choose which folders with groups from Congressus you want to synchronize with the app. All groups in the selected folder(s) will then be synchronized so that you can see them in Socie management (you will have access to Socie management later).

We have a lot to tell you about groups and “interactive groups”! That's why we've written an extensive article about them. (Article will be inserted later)

You can always synchronize more (or fewer) groups with the app afterwards.

Step 4: Select administrator

Here you select an App administrator. The App administrator is the person who (initially) gains access to the Socie Management platform in order to set up and test the app.

Important: the App administrator must be a member with one of the membership statuses you selected in step 2!

Many of our customers are members of the association they manage, so selecting an App administrator will not be a problem. However, if you manage an association or organization in Congressus as an “external person” (i.e., without a personal login for the Congressus Manager) and would like to become the App administrator, please read the following section:

You can add yourself via this button in the App (make sure to add an e-mailadres)

After adding yourself, you can change your rights to become an App Manager.

Step 5: Designing your app

We have used the colors from your Congressus website for your app. You are, of course, free to change this.

Step 6: Checking and confirming

Check carefully that all the details have been entered correctly. You can click on the previous steps to make changes.

After confirmation and creation of the app, the 28-day trial period with full functionality will start. After that, your app will automatically revert to the Start package, but we will notify you in advance.

During the trial period, you can try out all the app's features and do not need to upgrade to the Plus package.

If you are downgraded to the Start package after your trial period, the settings and data of all modules from the Plus package will be disabled. We do not delete any data or settings.

The first step is complete!

Your Congressus App has been created and the App administrator has received an email with an invitation to the Socie management platform.

The next step is: Step 2 - Set up and test the App in Socie management. [link article]

And then: Step 3 - Invite members. [link article]
